Ravens' Lamar Jackson Stunned by Patriots' Malik Cunningham QB Debut

Malik Cunningham is not the New England Patriots' starting QB. But he can do a pretty good impersonation of fellow Louisville product Lamar Jackson, the Ravens star who seems to approve.

Lamar Jackson has his own weekend business to take care of - from the safety of the sideline when his Baltimore Ravens stage their preseason opener against the Super Bowl Philadelphia Eagles.

So on Thursday night, he had a bit of free time ... and used it to watch a fellow former Louisville star dazzle.

Malik Cunningham is not the New England Patriots' starting QB. Entering the weekend, he wasn't even the Pats' No. 2 guy. New England is committed to Mac Jones - well, as committed as coach Bill Parcells allows himself to be - as the top guy. Bailey Zappe figures as the backup.

But there is no question that Malik Cunningham - the undrafted rookie from Louisville - was all over the field for the Patriots on Thursday night. ... and there is no question that even Lamar was impressed.

How "committed'' to Cunningham have the Pats been? Well, he played wide receiver in the first half of the 20-9 preseason loss to the Texans ... not generally a good endorsement of his QB skill. But then he switched to quarterback in the second half ... and he put on a bit of a show that included a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter. ... as you see here ...

And Lamar Jackson loved it, with a "Broski!'' shoutout on Twitter.

Cunningham finished the game by completing 3-of-4 passes for 19 yards along with five carries for 34 yards and his touchdown. ... and provided some electricity to an often-stodgy Pats offense that even a Raven could appreciate.
