Russell Wilson to Sign with Steelers? How Ravens Involved
The national media is already working under the assumption that the Pittsburgh Steelers will lose today’s Week 18 NFL finale to the Baltimore Ravens … and will therefore not make the AFC playoffs …
And will therefore scrap its present collection of quarterbacks and start all over in 2024 with … Russell Wilson?
But there are a lot of assumptions here and a lot of dominoes here - and yes, the Ravens are involved.
No, the Ravens don’t need a QB; At 13-3, they’ve been so good that MVP Lamar Jackson gets to sit out today.
But in a game that means nothing to the Ravens and everything to the playoff-hopeful Steelers (see their chances below)?
How Pittsburgh Season Can Be Killed By Ravens - Or By Steelers Themselves
What if the Steelers win? What if the work today at QB is a reason for that … and Mason Rudolph earns the right to keep the job - or even convinces the Steelers that a pricy mid-30s Wilson, a relative flop in Denver doomed to be dumped by them in the spring - isn’t needed because Pittsburgh experiences even more success after today?
That’s the part of the equation that CBS Sports misses when it projects Wilson heading here in the AFC North: The Steelers have poured resources into the position. That hasn’t yet worked to everyone’s satisfaction with first-round kid Kenny Pickett or with Mitch Trubisky.
So now it’s Rudolph’s turn.
It’s entirely possible that a resting Ravens team nevertheless destroys the 9-7 Steelers … destroys their roster, destroys their playoff chance, destroys Rudolph’s confidence and viability as an answer.
But until that happens? We’re not ready to write in ink that Russell Wilson should pack his luggage and move to the AFC North. Instead … let’s watch the game.
