3 Players to Watch at Saints Camp Day 2
As New Orleans Saints training camp day two gets under way, the pads are not yet on. Meaning that the keen focuses will remain on the skill position players. There is a big time return of a fan favorite, another fan favorite fighting for a starting role and another pass-catcher that simply will not stop shining.
Here are the three players we will keeping a close eye on during the third day of Saints training camp:
TE Jimmy Graham
After an impressive first day, the key will be consistently creating moments for Graham. Head coach Dennis Allen spoke on this during his media availability on Wednesday. "I don't have to see it every day," he said. "But I do need to see it." Graham had a nice catch during routes on air and looked to move fluidly during his practice back with the team. Impressive being that he was away from the NFL throughout the 2022 season.
Saints fans are hoping for Jimmy Graham to return as "HIMmy Graham" and that process is a long one. Can Graham find his moments to shine again during day two? One thing is for sure: he will get the opportunities.
WR Chris Olave
The Olave-Carr connection was on point again as camp opened and there is no doubt that it will continue. Olave may not be under the microscope from a critical perspective, but there are moments wherein he could be able to show some improvement. During minicamps and OTAs he came up with a couple of big-time contested catches in 50/50 ball chances. If he gets more of those on Thursday, it goes a long way in continuing to build trust with Carr while also instilling further confidence in himself that his off-season bulk up is paying off.
CB Alontae Taylor
The competition for the cornerback spot opposite Marshon Lattimore is officially under way. Cornerback Paulson Adebo got the first swing with first team reps on day one. It seems reasonable that Taylor will get that same shot on day two, or at least soon after.
Adebo made good on his opening chance with a pass breakup against Thomas on a target from Carr on the first play of team reps. Taylor has always had a nose for the ball and elite speed to pair with it. He made some big plays during minicamps. If he can show his ability to take the ball away, it will definitely go a long way in the competition with Adebo.
