NFL Expert Believes Free-Agent Defensive End Fits The Saints
There is still enough time to plan to construct a monument to honor the legendary defensive end Cam Jordan of the Saints. Until then, New Orleans must find a suitable option to complement Jordan on the left side of the defensive line. Despite being first-round draft picks, Marcus Davenport and Payton Turner have yet to be fully available to the team.
At the beginning of free agency, Davenport explored other opportunities and ultimately signed with the Vikings. Turner's goal is to remain healthy during training camp and the regular season. Returning veteran edge rushers Carl Granderson and Tanoh Kpassagnon will have Niko Lanos and Jabari Zuniga in training camp, hoping to push for reps. Still, second-round draft pick Isaiah Foskey has yet to sign his rookie contract with the Saints.
ESPN NFL writer Matt Bowen believes free-agent defensive end Frank Clark could fit New Orleans well.
"Clark can align in the Saints' loaded fronts to get edge one-on-ones opposite Cameron Jordan and loop inside on stunts and twists. In the Chiefs' postseason run to a Super Bowl title, Clark had 2.5 sacks and six pressures, so we know he still has some pass-rush juice. For a New Orleans team that wants to compete for the NFC South title, he could help in nickel and dime fronts." Bowen
The Saints could value Frank Clark's ability while pushing to win the NFC South title in 2023-24. Defensive coordinator Joe Wood could use Clark in multiple schemes to pressure opposing quarterbacks - plus, he is a consummate professional. During Super Bowl LVII, he harassed Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts on several plays.
Would Mickey Loomis consider kicking the tires on Frank Clark?
We shall see.
