The final of a pair of legal processes for New Orleans Saints players will continue on into the month of August and likely beyond. Running back Alvin Kamara saw his legal battles come to an end on July 11. Originally, Saints safety Marcus Maye had a jury trial set for Tuesday, July 25 tied to his 2021 DUI arrest. Per ESPN Saints Reporter Katherine Terrell, that trial has now been canceled and a new hearing has been scheduled for August 17.

Terrell notes that the rescheduling has to do with a change in plea, which was originally was "not guilty". Meaning he likely changed his plea to "guilty" or "no contest". That may become more clear on the August 17 hearing date.

It seems likely that following the hearing, a trial date may also be set. That means that we may not see the end of Maye's legal process anytime soon. On-field, that could then lead to a delay in any league discipline and suspension.

Maye and his running mate at safety Tyrann Mathieu were off to a rocky start in 2022, but when available throughout the season it was clear things were coming together and settling in. If Maye happens to avoid league discipline for a while, things could get off to a quick start for the Saints' secondary if they two of them can pick up where they left off last year.
