Alvin Kamara, The Investor: Banking, Juicing, and His Body (Club Shay Shay Interview)
Undisputed's co-host Shannon Sharpe also hosts "Club Shay Shay." The top-rated podcast and is in line for a Shorty award for Best Podcast. On Monday, Saints All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara joined Sharpe to discuss life on and off football's playing field. Kamara did not disappoint, especially within the first 11 minutes of their conversation.
Alvin Kamara is an investor in Greenwood. The program is a digital banking platform founded by Bounce TV's Ryan Glover, former U.N. Ambassador and civil rights legend Andrew Young, and rapper Killer Mike.
Their goal is to help elevate minorities and their communities in entrepreneurship, banking, loans, property ownership, credit establishment, and proper usage. So how did Kamara get connected in the venture?
Glover approached him. Kamara's involvement stems from his desire for minorities to become financially literate. He did not have a bank account until his high school days. His goal is for Greenwood to "empower everyone, not just younger people, but everyone, so that it is accessible, it is possible to be able to have access to these things, and this is important."
Sean Payton has referenced Kamara's intelligence on multiple occasions. Unlike most young football players who often spend money without investing, Kamara is doing the opposite by building equity in his brand via business investments and sponsorship. Sharpe inquired about Kamara's investment in New Orleans' cold press juice bar, The Big Squeezy. Kamara said he is "passionate about juicing since he was in college. Your health is your wealth." Alvin worked hard on the project from "the ground up, drew the plans, digging in the ground, finding pipes, like literally, I put my sweat, and my time into it."
"I'm passionate about whatever I'm involved in, and if I'm not, I'm not doing it." Alvin Kamara
For Kamara, juicing has become a way of life. "I did some research in my free time. Juicing kept coming up. Juicing. Carrots, celery, cold press, and all of the nutrients that come from it."
In the interview, it was essential to hear that the ingredients of Kamara's on-field accomplishments begin with his chosen diet. Not only is he a huge juicer, but he alternates between being a vegan and pescatarian. "Like a year ago, I went vegan, plant-based and pescatarian lifestyle, just jumping back and forth." Kamara continued, "Your body is your temple. You go to take care of your body. You got to fuel it right. You got to treat it right...when I'm training, I'm pretty much plant-based and keep everything clean...I will have some fish and eat seafood...rarely eat meat...I wouldn't say I'm super strict on it, but I'm disciplined."
There's no doubt for me and many that Alvin Kamara is a compelling person. His interests are varied and unique. We will dive into more of Shannon Sharpe's convo with Kamara in Part 2.
