Report: Alvin Kamara Will Meet Roger Goodell
New Orleans Saints star running back Alvin Kamara and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell will meet in New York City on Wednesday, according to Adam Schefter. The meeting will center around the possibility of suspending Kamara for his involvement in the alleged Las Vegas nightclub fight before the 2022 Pro Bowl game. Authorities arrested the All-Pro player following the all-star event at Allegiant Stadium.
At Monday's training camp, head coach Dennis Allen confirmed Kamara requested to meet with the commissioner to "tell his side" of the story. On July 11, Kamara entered a plea agreement to a misdemeanor charge of breach of peace and won't face felony charges for the incident against his alleged victim Darnell Greene. The Las Vegas court ordered Alvin Kamara to pay $100K for Greene's medical bills and perform community service.
OPTIONS WITHOUT KAMARA
During the offseason, New Orleans signed former Detroit Lions running back Jamaal Williams, who led the NFL in rushing touchdowns for 2022. The Saints drafted TCU running back Kendre Miller in the third round of the 2023 NFL Draft. So far, he has shown excellent skills during the Saints' training camp.
The Saints could consider bringing in another veteran running back if the league office decides to suspend Kamara for several games during the upcoming 2023-24 season.
NFL PERSONAL CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY
Kamara could face a minimum suspension of six games according to the NFL's Code of Conduct policy.
With regard to violations of the Personal Conduct Policy that involve: (i) criminal assault or battery (felony); (ii) domestic violence, dating violence, child abuse and other forms of family violence; or (iii) sexual assault involving physical force or committed against someone incapable of giving consent, a first 7 PCP – LPP 2018 offense will subject the offender to a baseline suspension without pay of six games, with consideration given to any aggravating or mitigating factors. The presence of possible aggravating factors may warrant a longer suspension.
New Orleans drafted Kamara out of the University of Tennessee as the 67th overall selection in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He had a stellar rookie season earning him the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award in 2017. In six seasons, Kamara has 88 game appearances while rushing for 5,135 yards and 49 touchdowns and caught 430 receptions for 3,752 yards and 22 touchdowns.
The Saints rusher has been honored with five NFL Pro Bowl nods from 2017-2021 and two second-team All-Pro teams in 2017 and 2020. He tied an NFL record for rushing for six touchdowns against the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Day in 2020.
