Derek Carr Addresses Michael Thomas Comments

Derek Carr responds to recent comments made by Michael Thomas.
In this story:

Saints quarterback Derek Carr was put into the spotlight recently after Michael Thomas took to social media to air out some interesting things. Among those was saying that Carr threw him a bad ball that led to his injury. The last time we'd see Thomas is against the Vikings, where he left with a knee injury. Carr recently joined James Jones and Amber Theoharis on Two G's in a Pod to talk about the season, and he addressed the comments.

Carr opened with, "I will start with saying this, I love Mike T. I really do. I love him."

"I think when I came in, I don't know how many years it's been where he's gotten hurt and didn't finish the year, but...there was a lot of frustration there. There was a lot of frustration that he had to deal with, and answering questions, and all that kind, and I could see how that could wear on you, right? So when it happens again, goodness, that is probably hard on the head and on the heart, you know, like 'Gosh dang it'."

"I don't even know exactly when it happened, but it probably wasn't the best ball, and I'm going to be completely honest, James (Jones) knows. James played with me. I'm not going to throw a perfect ball a hundred out of a hundred times. At the end of the day, I probably didn't throw the best ball. You know, if that's how he wants to view it and how he wants to see it, completely fine by me. And I understand also that when I came into the building, we have Chris Olave, who they were trying to train to be the No. 1 guy, so all of the sudden, every rep and every read in practice is Chris first. And as a superstar that Mike is and what he has been, I can understand you're dealing with all the injury noise. You're dealing with now, Chris has become a guy, and he loves Chris, that's his guy at Ohio State, all that, but I can understand where the frustration begins to build. I can understand where all those things begin to take place. But, there was times during the season where he'd be frustrated or this or that, and I wouldn't, you know, tweet about it, I would just call him. And I'd just be like, 'Look bro, this is what it is bro. We're grown men. We can talk about anything.' And every time that I went on there and talked to him, there was times where I went at him and confronted him about something and said something, and he probably, over time, with all the frustration grew to not liking that. But I've always just tried to tell the truth in love, and sometimes people don't like it."

"I hope Mike finds what he’s looking for. I hope he gets everything he wants in life, because I do love Mike. In that moment, I didn’t really like it. Just call me bro. To say all these things. I felt like we were doing some middle school thing. Just talk to me, and Mike was great about talking to me, but in that moment, that's why I just try to and stay off social media. Man, there's so much love, there's so much hate, just try to stay off it."

The writing has felt like it's been on the wall with Thomas and the Saints going in a different direction this offseason, which tracks with everything Saints News Network has been told about the situation. This isn't the first time Thomas has been in the spotlight from his social media posts. Early in December, Thomas tweeted during the Lions game and later deactivated his account. Dennis Allen was asked about it the following day, to which he said, "We'll keep that in house. I guess I was made aware of that last night."
