Who better to comment on what Derek Carr brings to the table other than Drew Brees? Here's some of the things he told Dan Patrick on Thursday.

Drew Brees went on The Dan Patrick Show on Thursday to discuss the addition of Derek Carr to the Saints. Needless to say, he gave a glowing round of praise for New Orleans landing him, and he even had a hand in recruiting him.

“I think it’s a great fit. I think it’s a great fit for him, great fit for the Saints,” Brees said.

“I’ve always been impressed with Derek Carr. I think he’s been in a pretty dysfunctional situation, I think we all recognize that. Look at all that’s happened to the Raiders from a personnel perspective, all the controversy, I think he’s caught the brunt of that unfairly in a lot of ways.”

It's no secret that New Orleans views him as a long-term solution. They sent out an all-out blitz in their recruiting efforts, with players like Michael Thomas and Tyrann Mathieu also being in on him coming to the Saints. Now, he walks into a situation where he can maximize his potential, especially with a strong defense behind him.

Brees added Carr's ability to see things at the line of scrimmage. Ever since Brees has been out the picture, Erik McCoy has made the majority of the checks at the line of scrimmage. Carr will be given a lot of control of the offense, and working alongside Pete Carmichael should allow him to be in a better position to make things happen. At least that's the expectation.

Brees said, “I’ve been impressed watching him play. He certainly has the ability to take an offense like what the Saints run and execute that well. Put a lot on his plate, where in many cases you’re going up to the line of scrimmage with multiple plays, the ability to check into multiple plays. Jon Gruden’s offense which he came up in was the same offense that we run. That West Coast-style, but the ability to ‘Hey we’re not going to run a bad play.’ That’s always the philosophy. We’re going to get out of bad plays, get into good plays, you have to be a smart quarterback to recognize that. I thought he’s always done a good job of that.”

We should hear from Carr soon, and his addition alone has put the Saints atop the NFC South. They need to rebound in a big way after a two-year playoff drought.
