Several Former Saints Land in XFL

Some former Saints have landed in the XFL, as the league finished up their draft this week.
In this story:

The XFL concluded their draft for the 2023 season, which sees a host of former Saints land on several teams. The league has some interesting names in there from Will Hill (Renegades) to Martavis Bryant and Vic Beasley (Vipers). Here's some of the players that we may get to see when the league launches in the spring, as their training camp kicks off in January.

Arlington Renegades (1): DB T.J. Green (spent time on 2019 squad)

D.C. Defenders (6): RB Abram Smith (UDFA from 2022), RB Ryquell Armstead (brief stint on practice squad in 2021), WR Simmie Cobbs (was signed off Washington's practice squad in 2018, hung around until final cuts in Aug. 2019), TE Ethan Wolf (had stints with team from 2020-2021, was waived in May 2022), TE Kahale Warring (was with team for a month in 2022 from May-June), K Daniel Whelan (punter that was added as a UDFA in 2022, was later waived)

San Antonio Brahmas (6): TE Alize Mack (was the team's 7th Round draft pick in 2019), DB Jack Koerner (was a UDFA add for 2022, was one of the first to go and was brought back in August briefly), WR Dai'Jean Dixon (was a UDFA and around in training camp for 2022), LB Joel Dublanko (another UDFA add for 2022 that didn't stay long), K John Parker Romo (another 2022 UDFA that stayed in camp for a bit), DL Prince Emili (currently on the team's practice squad)

Seattle Sea Dragons (2): CB Linden Stephens (UDFA from 2018), DL Niko Lalos (was a late add to training camp in 2022, currently on practice squad)

Vegas Vipers (2): TE Brandon Dillon (small stint in 2022 from late June to early August), OL Avery Young (was a UDFA add from 2016, spent entire year on the NFI, released in Feb. 2017)

The Houston Roughnecks coaching have plenty of Saints ties, with Wade Phillips running things as head coach, Bill Johnson on the defensive line, and Greg McMahon on special teams. Seattle's team has Jim Haslett as their head coach, with Randy Mueller serving as their Director of Player Personnel. La’Roi Glover is the defensive line coach for the St. Louis BattleHawks. Finally, Gregg Williams is defensive coordinator for the Defenders.

It'll be interesting to see how this league stacks up to the USFL, who is coming off first-year success.
