Former Saints TE Josh Hill signs with Lions

Former New Orleans Saints tight end Josh Hill signed with the Detriot Lions.

Former Saints tight end Josh Hill has found a new home in Detroit. According to the Detroit Lions social media account, the team announced the signing of free-agent TE Josh Hill. Lions head coach Dan Campbell coached Hill in New Orleans before accepting his new position last month.

The financial terms of Hill's contract with Detroit have not been released.

The New Orleans Saints released Hill after eight seasons with the club. In 2013, Hill was a free-agent signee from Idaho State University.

New Orleans head coach Sean Payton trusted Josh Hill with blocking duties on the Saints offensive line. Last season, several injuries sidelined Hill, and he started seven games in 14 game appearances.

GM Mickey Loomis has been creating cap space for the Saints and released tight end Jared Cook, along with Hill.   TE Adam Trautman is the favorite to start at the position in 2021.   Garrett Griffin and Ethan Wolf are the remaining tight ends with signed contracts on the team.

Hill played in 117 games in New Orleans with 61 starts, 116 catches, 1071 yards receiving, and 15 touchdowns.
