Drew Brees addressed the city of New Orleans less than 24 hours after announcing his retirement from the game of football, with a goodbye letter that appeared in the Times-Picayune on Monday.
In the letter, Brees addressed the Who Dat Nation, the Benson family, coaches, teammates, his family and more. Thanking them all individually for their sacrifice, dedication and unwavering support throughout his 15-year career with the New Orleans Saints.
The heartfelt farewell was brought to life two days later as the New Orleans Saints social media team recorded and released a video of Brees reading his letter aloud. As of Thursday morning the emotional goodbye has a combined 466,500+ views and 28,200 reactions between Facebook and Twitter and has touched the hearts of many across the Who Dat Nation.
"You told me that if I love New Orleans, you would love me back. No truer words have ever been spoken."
