New Orleans Saints quarterback sends a comforting video message to a fan following her mother's death.

It's rare for an NFL quarterback to step aside from his overwhelming daily schedule to offer a word of support to just one fan — but it's not unusual for Saints quarterback Jameis Winston.  On Thursday, longtime New Orleans Saints fan and Memphis Grizzlies podcaster Nicole Jackson's mother passed away.  On Friday morning, Jackson woke up with a video from Winston offering words of comfort.

Winston usually expresses his faith through inspirational and motivating videos or messages on social media for his fans.  It wasn't a complete surprise that he recorded his condolences and sent them to Jackson and her family.  That's just Jameis.

"It was something I didn't expect to wake up to 24 hours after losing my mom," Jackson said to Saints News Network.

She also wrote, "This is one of the many reasons why we love @Jaboowins [Jameis Winston].  I woke up to this in my inbox from a good friend of mine.  Jameis did not have to take the time of day to even think about or speak on behalf of me and my family, but he did."

Prayers and condolences for Jackson flooded her Twitter page since his video was shared.

Jameis Winston will open the 2023 NFL season as the New Orleans Saints backup quarterback to Derek Carr.  Last season, it was Winston who was the starter brining the team back from a 23-10 deficit and defeating the Atlanta Falcons 27-26 on the road in the season's opener.  It was one of those magical moments as we watched from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium's press box.  Still, the fractured vertebrae and torn foot ligament sidelined Winston and  Andy Dalton finished the season as the team's starter.

The former first-overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has supported Carr since his arrival.   His new role as the backup is a temporary state of mind for Winston, who still considers himself an NFL starter.  Based on his recent workout videos, he's keeping his body in shape in case New Orleans needs him to step in for Carr at any point this season.
