New Orleans Saints Add Derek Carr's Old Backup In Las Vegas To Quarterback Room
The need for another quarterback on the roster was evident following Jameis Winston signing with the Browns, and the Saints added one to the mix on Thursday. As first reported by NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill, New Orleans is signing Nathan Peterman to the roster on a one-year deal on the league minimum. A league source confirms the news to Saints News Network.
Peterman, who has been in the league since 2017 after being drafted by the Bills in the 5th Round, has spent the past couple of seasons with the Bears. He's had experience with new quarterbacks coach Andrew Janocko while in Chicago and has also served as Derek Carr's backup before during his time with the Raiders (2018-2021).
No Deal Yet For New Orleans Saints Cornerback That Revitalized Career, Set To Visit With Another Team
The Saints still have Jake Haener on the roster, last year's 127th overall pick in the 4th Round. We'd fully anticipate him being the favorite to backup Carr this season. New Orleans could obviously add more to the quarterback room, especially in the draft, but they're back up to three for now.
