Saints Re-Sign Dwayne Washington

The Saints are quietly bringing back more pieces to the puzzle that is their 2021 season.

According to ESPN's Field Yates, the Saints have re-signed running back Dwayne Washington. It's been a relatively crazy day across the league with teams exercising their franchise tags, which actually saw New Orleans use it on safety Marcus Williams.

Washington has been with the team since 2018 after originally being a 7th Round pick of the Lions in 2016. He'd be waived on Sept. 1, 2018, and latch on with the Saints practice squad the very next day. Washington is known more for his work on special teams and depth, but has stepped in a few times for the team in the offense. In 2020, Washington appeared in just over one percent of the team's offensive snaps (11), while totaling 204 snaps (44.8 percent) on special teams.

New Orleans has re-signed a few underrated and undervalued players over the past week like Washington (Ty Montgomery, Noah Spence) while working on their salary cap and then locking up big special teamer J.T. Gray. There's still more work to be done, but Mickey Loomis and the front office keep going at it with the start of the new league year right around the corner.
