Saints, Cesar Ruiz Agree On Four-Year Contract Extension
The Saints and Cesar Ruiz have agreed on a contract extension, as first reported by NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The deal is worth up to $46 million, extending the right guard to a 4-year, $44 million deal with $30 million guaranteed. A league source confirmed the news.
We got the sense back in March that the team wasn't going to pick up the fifth-year option for Ruiz, which was going to come in a bit higher than the team wanted to pay. In early May, it was said again that they were not going to do it.
New Orleans drafted the Michigan product at 24th overall in 2020, and Ruiz has played in 46 of 50 possible games since his rookie year. In 2021, he actually was the only offensive lineman to make it through the full 17-game slate. Last season, Ruiz saw things end late in December due to a Lisfranc injury. He's done a nice job recovering and looks to be a big part of things this season. With former star offensive lineman Jahri Evans in the coaching mix, the future does seem bright for Ruiz.
