The Associated Press reports on Tuesday morning that the New Orleans Saints have discussed a possible contract extension with DE Cameron Jordan. One of the franchise's greatest all-time players, Jordan could be an unrestricted free agent at year's end.

Jordan's agent, Doug Hendrickson of Wasserman, said that conversations have taken place about a potential extension of at least two years. Hendrickson told the Associated Press that talks have taken place between both sides and that he'd like to get a deal done before the start of training camp in July.

Jordan, who turns 34 on July 10, has played his entire career with the Saints. He arrived as the 24th overall selection in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of California. After one sack as a rookie, Jordan has had at least 7.5 sacks and six years of double-digit totals over the last 11 years.

The franchise's all-time leader with 115.5 official sacks, Jordan also has 150 tackles for loss, 2 interceptions, and 26 fumbles forced or recovered during his decorated career. Son of former Vikings TE Steve Jordan, Cam has been voted to eight Pro Bowls, receiving the honor in six consecutive seasons.

Jordan led the Saints with 8.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, and 17 pressures in 2022. Incredibly, he's played in 203 games over his career, missing only one because of injury and another because of Covid.

Still playing at an amazingly productive level, Jordan has expressed his desire to finish his career in New Orleans. The Saints typically try to get such negotiations done before the start of or early in training camp. Because of prior restructures, Jordan will currently count against the team's salary cap until 2027 whether he's on the roster or not.

New Orleans added DE Isaiah Foskey with a second-round draft pick this offseason to join Carl Granderson, Tanoh Kpassagnon, and Payton Turner at defensive end. However, Jordan remains the key to the defensive line, if not the entire defense, and is among the greatest players in New Orleans Saints history.
