Saints Former Starting Quarterback Has A New Team
The New Orleans Saints' former starting quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, may have found a new home in Detroit, according to Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. Should he officially sign with the young and surging Lions team, the quarterback could rejoin former New Orleans assistant Dan Campbell (head coach) and defensive backs coach Aaron Glenn (defensive coordinator). Bridgewater will compete to become Jared Goff's backup against quarterbacks Adrian Martinez and Nate Sudfield.
Bridgewater left New Orleans as a fan favorite. He had a 5-0 record after Drew Brees injured his thumb ligament against the Los Angeles Rams in a 30-17 defeat on Sept. 15, 2019. The former Vikings first-round draft pick led the Saints to consecutive wins against Seattle, Dallas, Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, and Chicago before Brees returned to the starting lineup.
After the 2019 season, Teddy Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million free-agent contract with the Carolina Panthers. Unfortunately, the Panthers released him after one season. He then agreed to a one-year, $4.4 million deal with the Denver Broncos and started 14 games. Following his stint with the Broncos, Bridgewater joined the Miami Dolphins as a backup to Tua Tagovailoa.
Teddy Bridgewater has started 65 games and has a record of 33 wins and 32 losses since being drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2014 NFL Draft. The highly-respected quarterback tore his ACL in the left knee during an organized team practice, causing him to miss the 2016 football season while undergoing rehabilitation. Bridgewater's NFL career includes passing for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions for a 90.5 quarterback rating in his NFL career.
