New Orleans Saints To Interview Luke Getsy For Offensive Coordinator Spot

The list of candidates continues to grow, as the Saints line up another interview for offensive coordinator.
In this story:

Albert Breer of SI.com has reported that former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy will interview with the New Orleans Saints on Wednesday for their vacant offensive coordinator spot. Breer reports that the New England Patriots will meet with Getsy on Tuesday for the same role.

Getsy, 39, will be the 11th person interviewed by the Saints for a position that opened up when they fired Pete Carmichael two weeks ago. New Orleans also lost RB coach Joel Thomas to the New York Giants and terminated the contracts of WR coach Kodi Burns and senior offensive assistant Bob Bicknell.

A college quarterback at Pitt and the University of Akron, Getsy began his coaching career at IUP in 2011, then Western Michigan, before becoming a quality control coach for the Green Bay Packers in 2014. After two years in that capacity, he was promoted to WR coach, where he remained for two seasons before becoming offensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Getsy returned to Green Bay in 2019, serving as QB coach and passing game coordinator for the next three seasons. The Chicago Bears hired Getsy as their offensive coordinator in 2022, where he's remained until being fired at the conclusion of this season.

Under Getsy, the Bears finished with the NFL's 28th ranked offense in 2022. They improved to 20th in total offense this season, despite a four-game injury absence of QB Justin Fields. Chicago was held to 20 points or less in 10 of 17 games this year and 20 out of 34 contests with Getsy as offensive coordinator.

*UPDATE* This is actually Getsy's second interview with New Orleans, per sources. His first interview with the team was not reported.

New Orleans finished 14th in total offense and ninth in points scored under Carmichael in 2023. They failed to score more than 20 points in 16 of their 34 games since Sean Payton resigned and Carmichael assumed chief control of the offense in 2022.
