Saints: Lattimore Omitted From Fox Sports Top-10 Cornerbacks Ranking
The Fox Sports staff of writers are highly respected sports journalists. It surprised many Saints fans and NFL aficionados that their Top-10 NFL Cornerbacks list omitted Marshon Lattimore. The list included:
- Sauce Gardner
- Patrick Surtain Jr.
- Jaire Alexander
- Darius Slay
- Jalen Ramsey
- Trevon Diggs (OUT)
- Denzel Ward
- Tariq Woolen
- Stephon Gilmore
- Xavien Howard
- Marshon Lattimore (Honorable mention)
Who Dat Confessional's Deuce Windham listed allowed quarterback ratings of several cornerbacks selected over Lattimore:
- Jaire Alexander - 135.7
- Patrick Surtain II - 108
- Stephon Gilmore QBR When Targeted - 74
- Tariq Woolen - 70.1
- Marshon Lattimore - 26.5
The New Orleans cornerback is off to having one of his best seasons in the National Football League. The Saints' bookend cornerbacks, Lattimore and Paulson Adebo, rank 3rd and 4th in the lowest passer ratings allowed at their position.
In the season opener against the Titans, Lattimore put up an impressive performance, scoring 90.2 in PFF coverage grade. He allowed two receptions, forced three incompletions, and even managed to grab an interception. In the following week he defended eight targets, allowing only three receptions, forcing four incompletions, and getting another interception with a remarkable 9.4 passer rating. After Week 3, Lattimore has six passes defended, with only his teammate, Alontae Taylor, having more at seven.
Greg Auman is an excellent writer but how did his Fox Sports colleagues rank Lattimore 11th with an honorable mention?
Lattimore, without question, is a lock-down cornerback. Hopefully, after his battle with Tampa Bay's Mike Evans in Week 4, they'll have a change of heart. Historically, the Saints defensive back has gotten the better of Evans, but he too is having a great start of the season. Who will prevail as the best on Sunday?
We shall see.
