New Orleans Saints DE Payton Turner suffered a turf toe injury during his team's 16-15 win over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. The news was first reported by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport on Sunday night.

Turner, 25, suffered the injury during a second quarter pressure on Titans QB Ryan Tannehill. He was also held and went down awkwardly on the play. He did not return to the game after leaving to go to the locker room.

Rapoport reports that the injury could require surgery and force Turner to miss several weeks. Unfortunate for the third-year defensive end, who was coming off an outstanding training camp and preseason.

A first-round choice out of Houston by the Saints in the 2021 NFL Draft, Turner is no stranger to injuries. He'd played in only 13 of a possible 34 contests in his first two seasons, largely because of a variety of injuries. In those 13 games, Turner had 3 sacks, 12 pressures, and 8 tackles for loss among 28 total stops.

It finally looked like Turner had turned a corner before this latest setback. Hopefully for his case, and the Saints, he'll only be sidelined for a short stint.
