Saints Announce Five Moves As Rookies Report for Training Camp
New Orleans Saints rookies reported for training camp on Tuesday, July 18, with veterans scheduled to report next week. The Saints announced five personnel moves with their incoming rookies that will delay their participation in training camp practices.
New Orleans placed two of their seven draft choices on the non-football injury list, along with an undrafted rookie. Another draft pick, and an undrafted rookie, were also placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Non-Football Injury List (NFI)
• Kendre Miller, RB
• A.T. Perry, WR
• Shaq Davis, WR
Miller was drafted in the third round out of TCU. He had 1,399 and 17 touchdowns for the national runner-up Horned Frogs in 2022. He's still on the mend from a torn meniscus that kept him out of TCU's national championship loss to Georgia.
Perry is a sixth-round pick out of Wake Forest. He had 152 receptions for 2,389 yards and 26 touchdowns over his final two seasons for the Demon Deacons. Davis is a big-bodied possession receiver who, along with Perry, is looking to continue the Saints history of undrafted or late-round gems at receiver.
The NFI list is typically used for players who are rehabbing injuries suffered outside of an NFL facility. Those injuries typically occurred during the previous year of college football, but may also have happened away from the game altogether. They can resume practice the moment that they are medically cleared.
Physically Unable to Perform (PUP)
• Nick Saldiveri, G/T
• Anthony Johnson, CB
New Orleans traded two Day 3 picks to move up to select versatile lineman Saldiveri with the first choice in Day 3 of the draft. He suffered a calf injury early in OTA workouts that sidelined him through mini-camp. Johnson made some nice plays during training camp and is looking to crack the roster at a loaded cornerback position.
Players on the P.U.P. list during training camp do count against a team's 90-man roster. They may immediately return to practice once medically cleared during the preseason, but cannot be placed back on the P.U.P. list.
If a player begins the regular season on the P.U.P. list, they must miss a minimum of four games before returning to action.
Second round pick Isaiah Foskey, a defensive end from Notre Dame, had also reportedly not signed his rookie contract as of Tuesday. Foskey is the only one of the Saints draft choices not under contract.
