Updated roster moves for the Saints as they prepare for the 2023-24 NFL season.

The New Orleans Saints played the final game of the NFL preseason Sunday night against the Houston Texans, losing 17-13. Now coach Dennis Allen and his staff has the unenviable task of setting their 53-man roster for the start of the regular season. 

The Saints open their 2023-24 season at home against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 10.

All NFL teams had to trim their active rosters 53 to players by 4pm Eastern Time on Tuesday, August 29. Each team is also permitted to have a 16-player practice squad, which they can begin filling out on Wednesday afternoon. Ten of those players must have less than two years of accrued NFL experience. There are no restrictions on the other six practice squad members. 

Once the NFL cutdown day has passed, a player can be placed on injured reserve without being automatically out for the entire year. A player who starts the year on the Physically Unable to Perform list (P.U.P.) must miss a minimum of four games. Any player on injured reserve, the PUP list, or suspended list will not count towards the active roster until their return.
