Saints Sign DB Lonnie Johnson Jr.
The Saints are adding to their secondary. According to The Score's Jordan Schultz, the team is signing defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. to the roster on a one-year deal.
Schultz said there were several suitors for the former 2019 second-round pick, who was originally drafted by the Texans. He spent three seasons in Houston, and was with the Chiefs and Titans last season, playing in 12 games for Tennessee. There he was mostly in for special teams, appearing in 182 snaps (58 percent) while being in on 165 (20 percent) of their defensive snaps.
Johnson brings versatility to the table for New Orleans, something they absolutely covet. The team had a few free agents at the safety position, with Justin Evans landed in Philadelphia today. They have some cap space to work with, and it's important to remember that free agency is ongoing. There will likely be some more additions for the black and gold over the next couple of weeks.
