Saints Add Jesse James and Jake Bargas
The Saints added two players on Wednesday, as the team announced the signings of tight end Jesse James and fullback Jake Bargas and release of kicker Alex Quevedo.
SAINTS OTAS: PRACTICE NOTES, TAKEAWAYS, OBSERVATIONS
James, who is 28, only played in two games for the Browns last year due to a biceps injury. He had previous stints with the Bears and Lions after pretty strong campaigns with the Steelers. As for Bargas, he saw action in a couple of games with the Vikings, and was most recently with the Dolphins practice squad.
New Orleans was carrying three kickers on the roster up until the release of Quevedo, and hopefully we can see a little bit more from Blake Grupe, who struggled some during Tuesday's practice. Regardless, it's Wil Lutz's job until it's not. The offense now has two fullbacks on the roster with Bargas and Adam Prentice.
We haven't seen Taysom Hill at OTAs yet, as most of the work has been with Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, and Lucas Krull. Miller Forristall has been present, but not participating. Again, OTAs are strictly voluntary, and these type of moves will be common leading up to training camp.
It'll be interesting to see if the Saints make any big splashes as part of the post-June 1 moves. Dennis Allen said on Tuesday that the team is always looking to improve, and players like Hunter Renfrow have been heavily rumored to New Orleans. Of course, the Saints also need to look at the defensive line and linebacker spots before getting into training camp.
