Saints sign CB Keith Washington II to Reserve/Future Contract
The New Orleans Saints signed cornerback Keith Washington II to a reserve/future contract for the 2021 season. I contacted Washington's representative Will Harris at Icon Sports regarding Keith's return to the Saints for another season.
Harris responded, "Keith is incredibly excited to return to the New Orleans Saints next year. It was always his preferred destination to play in '21. He's looking forward to getting started on his offseason work so that he'll be in the best position to contribute in a meaningful way next season."
The agreement ensures Washington will be on the initial 90-man roster spot for 2021.
I wanted to know from Washington how did it feel to return to the Saints. I shot me this text:
Feels good man! Glad to be back!
In his rookie season, Washington was a member of the Saints’ practice squad after an impressive preseason campaign. The former West Virginia Mountaineer signed a free agent contract after going undrafted in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Even though Washington did not suit up for a game this season, he offers superb depth at a loaded position for New Orleans.
According to Saints News Network’s Bob Rose, the two-year college starter “has good natural man-to-man coverage skills along with the foot speed and long stride to match up with most receivers down the field.” Rose also explained that Washington exhibits “explosive leaping ability and excellent ball skills to contest the throw.” These attributes were on display in college, as he intercepted five passes in his time with the Mountaineers.
During the NFL draft process, Washington had raw talent as a cornerback and needed to improve his hip technique and play recognition. However, after having an eye-popping training camp and spending a season on the practice squad, he has earned a chance to compete for the Saints' 53-man roster.
Saints News Network had Keith Washington as a guest on its Bayou Blitz Podcast in August 2020.
