Report: Saints to Sign TE Foster Moreau
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the New Orleans Saints have officially signed free-agent TE Foster Moreau on Wednesday. According to Fowler, it's a three-year contract for $12 million, with $8 million guaranteed and another $3 million available in incentives.
Moreau, who turns 27 on May 6, had visited with the Saints back in March. The deal was put on hold when a physical revealed a treatable form of Hodgkins lymphoma. He returned to New Orleans a few weeks ago to complete his physical and was given a contract offer by the team earlier this week, according to John Hendrix of the Saints News Network.
A graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Moreau played collegiately at LSU. He'd catch 46 passes for 550 yards and five touchdowns in his final two seasons with the Tigers and was a fourth-round pick by the Oakland Raiders in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Moreau played four seasons for the Raiders, where he was a teammate of new Saints QB Derek Carr. He'd have 91 receptions for 1,107 yards and 12 touchdowns, with a career-high of 33 catches and 420 yards in 2022.
At 6'4" and 250-Lbs., Moreau is an outstanding run blocker. He's also proven to be a physical receiver through the intermediate zones with underrated athleticism after the catch. Moreau played in 61 games over his four years, starting 34 and missing just five contests because of injury.
With his health issues, it's possible that Moreau will not be available for the start of training camp or the regular season. His treatment is reportedly going well, however, and he could be ready for camp without limitations. If he's not, the Saints can place him on the non-football injury list and he won't count as a roster spot until he's healthy.
Adding Foster Moreau checks off a big need for New Orleans. An outstanding two-way tight end, he'll be a massive in-line upgrade over what the team has had in several seasons. Moreau will team with Juwan Johnson to give the Saints a potent 1-2 tandem at the position.
