Teddy Bridgewater struggles in second preseason start for Saints
Teddy Bridgewater misfired on a few throws and had one tipped pass intercepted near the goal line in his second preseason start with the New Orleans Saints.
One week after he looked sharp in his Saints preseason debut, the 26-year-old quarterback completed five of 12 passes for 40 yards in the first half Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The interception came on a short throw intended for running back Dwayne Washington, who reached up and tipped the high throw for Jaylen Watkins to catch near the goal line.
The Saints scored once in five possessions with Bridgewater at quarterback.
Bridgewater fumbled a shotgun snap on fourth down on the the first possession. On the second possession, he overthrew Emmanuel Butler on third-and-8, and on the third possession, he threw behind Alvin Kamara just before a field goal by Wil Lutz.
The Saints defense set up that field goal with an interception by linebacker A.J. Klein off a pass tipped by Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata.
Taysom Hill replaced Bridgewater late in the first half. The first half ended with the Saints trailing 17-3.
Last week against the Vikings, the Saints scored on three of four possessions with Bridgewater at quarterback. In that game, he completed 14 of 19 passes for 134 yards with a touchdown for a passer rating of 110.4.
Bridgewater completed his day Sunday with a passer rating of 16.0.
