Report: Saints to Visit With Veteran WR on Monday
Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the New Orleans Saints will visit with free-agent WR James Washington on Monday. The 27-year-old Washington appeared in two games with the Dallas Cowboys last season and did not record a reception. He dealt with a foot injury all year before being released by the Cowboys.
Washington was a second-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma State. Over his last three collegiate seasons he had 198 receptions for 4,016 yards and 33 scores.
In four years with the Steelers, he caught 114 passes for 1,629 yards and 11 touchdowns. His best year was in 2019, when he had 44 catches for 735 yards.
An explosive deep receiver, Washington is also a breakaway threat after short receptions. If signed, Washington would join a deep receiving corps that includes Michael Thomas, Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Bryan Edwards, and rookie sixth-round choice A.T. Perry.
