Saints Reportedly Aware Of Chase Young's Neck Procedure, He Will Be Ready For Training Camp
In Monday's introductory press conference, the newly signed Saints defensive end Chase Young told New Orleans reporters, "It's all about the process, all about the journey."
Before Young makes it to a Saints practice, his journey will include undergoing a neck procedure that will keep him out until training camp in August, according to sources of Adam Schefter. Young and New Orleans agreed to a 1-year, $13M contract.
Schefter posted via social media that "Teams were aware of his neck issue, and the Saints were comfortable moving ahead with it."
The former Defensive Rookie of the Year signed with New Orleans as a free agent. Young's scheduled visit to the Big Easy was delayed several days before he arrived and dined on seafood with the team's representatives at a local restaurant.
Young will join the defensive leadership of Cam Jordan, Demario Davis, Tyrann Mathieu, and Willie Gay. He stated the primary reason for signing with the Saints was, "Just a culture, man. Just a tradition—a winning culture—I feel like this is a place for me."
Young could miss the entire offseason workout, yet be available for treatment and meetings.
"But I'm a man of God. It's a journey, and we're going to see what happens."
He's projected to start with Cam Jordan, Carl Granderson, Payton Turner, and Tanoh Kpassagnon returning to compete at defensive end.
The New Orleans Saints will start their 2024 offseason workouts on Apr. 15, per NFL rules for a returning head coach.
