Sean Payton to Become Broncos Coach
The Denver Broncos appear to have won the Sean Payton sweepstakes. According to multiple reports, the Saints are trading Payton to Denver for their first-round pick and next year's second-round pick. New Orleans will send back a 2024 third-round pick in the deal.
On Sunday, Payton mentioned that the door wasn't closed on him coaching in 2023, and that we should know a lot more in the next week. That ended up being Tuesday.
The Saints will pick up the 29th Overall pick this year after factoring in the forfeited pick from the Dolphins, which certainly helps a lot in terms of their future outlook. This is a major shakeup in the coaching landscape, as Payton goes to the AFC West. The haul is a pretty good one for the Saints, although sending back compensation to the Broncos isn't totally ideal. However, the Saints get major assets going into 2023 and 2024 for Payton.
The Saints have a host of needs going into the offseason, and they'll now have two picks in the Top 50. Payton will now work with Russell Wilson and have a pretty strong defense on the other side.
