Will Smith: New Orleans Saints Legend's Shooter Found Guilty Of Manslaughter In A Retrial

Will Smith's shooter has been found guilty of manslaughter in a retrial of the case.

Will Smith, one of the legendary New Orleans Saints players, was lost on April 9, 2016.

On Friday, a New Orleans jury found Cardell Hayes guilty of manslaughter for the shooting death of Smith, according to a WWL report.

However, the jury did not find Hayes guilty of the attempted manslaughter charge for injuring Will Smith's widow, Racquel Smith, in the incident.

"My family and I have been enduring a horrific experience since April 9, 2016. Over the past eight years, every significant moment and memory for our family has been filled with sorrow. We deeply long for our beloved Superman." Racquel Smith remarked.

The defense of Hayes argued that he shot Will Smith in self-defense after a car accident in April 2016, and the jury dismissed the claim.

Cardell Hayes' sentencing is scheduled for March 2024.

The New Orleans Saints selected Will Smith out of Ohio State University as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft. He had 139 game appearances in New Orleans and is fourth in sacks for the franchise with 67.5.

Will Smith was inducted into the New Orleans Saints Hall of Fame in 2016.
