Seattle Seahawks Mascot Retires, Gets Locked Out on April Fools Day
April Fools' Day is a day for jokes and silly pranks, and the Seattle Seahawks embraced the fun on Monday.
More specifically, Blitz, the Seahawks' mascot, got in on the fun. On his own personal X account, Blitz pulled the classic April Fools joke of announcing his "retirement" from his role as the Seahawks' mascot. In the same post, Blitz announced that Boom, the Seahawks' secondary mascot and Blitz' "official sidekick," would take over the role.
The joke doesn't end there, though. On Tuesday, Blitz posted a video of himself getting locked out of Virginia Mason Athletic Center, the Seahawks' headquarters and practice facility.
Blitz has been the Seahawks' mascot since 1998, although he received a major redesign in 2014. At the same time, the Seahawks introduced Boom, a mascot designed to appeal to a younger demographic.
The team also has Taima, a live augur hawk that leads the Seahawks out of the tunnel on game days.
April Fools' Day jokes can be hit or miss, but at the very least, it seems like the Seahawks and their mascots had a fun time with this one.
