Drew Lock, Seattle Seahawks Hanging Tough With San Francisco 49ers, Trail at Halftime
Without starting quarterback Geno Smith, the Seattle Seahawks didn't blink and gave the San Francisco 49ers a surprising fight through one half of Sunday's meeting at Levi's Stadium, but trailed 14-10 headed into the locker room.
With their playoff hopes on the line, the Seahawks relied on Drew Lock at quarterback, who looked comfortable early. He finished the first half 11 of 15 passing for 112 yards and one touchdown, which went to DK Metcalf on Seattle's first drive.
Even with Kenneth Walker III back in the fold for Seattle, rookie running back Zach Charbonnet came up with some huge plays on the ground. He back-to-back 23-yard runs to get the Seahawks into field-goal range on their drive to take a 10-7 lead.
Niners quarterback Brock Purdy went 9 of 14 passing for 150 yards, one touchdown and one pick in the first half.
The Seahawks were hit with a quick strike on the first play of the game when 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey broke free for a 72-yard run that was followed up by a three-yard touchdown from backup running back Jordan Mason.
Seattle could've easily curled up into a ball at the mercy of the road crowd. Instead, Lock casually led an eight-play, 75-yard drive that ended with an impressive 31-yard touchdown throw to Metcalf to tie things up at 7-7.
Drew Lock 'Ready As He Can Get' For 49ers
The Seahawks then forced the Niners into back-to-back punts before Jordan Love picked off Purdy.
However, after getting the field goal, Lock and the offense stalled with two punts of their own on the two drives after securing the pick. The 49ers took a 14-10 lead in between these possessions after Samuel's 54-yard touchdown.
The Seahawks will receive the second-half kickoff.
