NFL Free Agency Rumor: Seahawks Sign Depth, Add CB Cameron Dantzler?

Cameron Dantzler remains a free agent despite starting 26 games for the Minnesota Vikings since 2020. Could the Seattle Seahawks sign him to boost cornerback depth?
In this story:

Former Minnesota Vikings cornerback Cam Dantzler has had a whirlwind of an offseason.

After the Vikes cut him in March, he was claimed by the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders cut Dantzler in May, but then he signed with the Buffalo Bills in June. In July, the Bills waived him with an injury designation, prompting him to sign with the Houston Texans in August. Dantzler was part of the Texans' final roster cuts, and now he remains a free agent.

Bleacher Report suggests that the Seattle Seahawks could be Dantzler's next stop on his 2023 tour.

"Signing Cameron Dantzler would give the Seahawks another young project whom the coaching staff may be able to get on the right track," Bleacher Report writes. "Dantzler will be 25 this season and had strong seasons in 2020 and 2021 before giving up a 111.1 passer rating in 2022."

Last season, Dantzler recorded 50 tackles, five passes defended, three tackles for loss, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble. He finished his Vikings tenure with 149 tackles, 17 passes defended and three interceptions.

While the team employs Riq Woolen and No. 5 overall pick Devon Witherspoon, Seattle could use additional beneficiaries at the cornerback spot. The team also claimed rookie Kyu Blu Kelly off waivers from the Baltimore Ravens, but if injuries begin to pile up during the season, perhaps the Seahawks could take a flier on Dantzler, who has 26 career starts in his first three seasons.

The Seahawks open the season at home on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:25 p.m. at Lumen Field.
