NFL Mock Draft: Seahawks Take Local OT Prospect?

The Seattle Seahawks may not have to look far to draft their first prospect for this year's rookie class.

The Seattle Seahawks hold the No. 16 pick in the NFL Draft, which could land them an outstanding player to kick off their 2024 rookie class.

Sports Illustrated compiled a three-round mock draft and had the Seahawks selecting Washington Huskies tackle Troy Fautanu.

"It's not the most exciting pick when your favorite team spends their first-round selection on an interior offensive lineman, but Fautanu is an absolute stud who would fill Seattle's biggest need," SI writes. "He played left tackle for the Huskies, but he might be even more dominant if he slides inside at the next level."

Fautanu wouldn't have to travel far to begin his NFL career, and he could start right away in the trenches protecting Geno Smith.

After drafting Charles Cross and Abe Lucas in 2022 and Anthony Bradford and Olu Oluwatimi in 2023, the Seahawks could continue to fortify their offensive line by selecting Fautanu in 2024.

Fautanu is part of a stacked offensive line class and is the fifth player at the position to come off the board in this mock draft. Olu Fashanu (No. 4), Joe Alt (No. 7), Taliese Fuaga (No. 10) and JC Latham (No. 14) rank ahead of Fautanu. However, all the players above him project strictly as tackles while Fautanu is likely set to be an interior lineman.

It could be too early to take a guard or center in the draft at No. 16, but there's a very real chance the Seahawks could look to add a front seven player on the defensive side of the ball if offensive line isn't the position they address in Seattle. Players like Florida State's Jared Verse or Texas defensive lineman Byron Murphy II could make sense at that spot.
