Russell Wilson Old No. 3 Jersey Re-Assigned After New Seahawks Signing
The Seattle Seahawks as OTAs began on Monday brought in a familiar face … and are now dressing re-signed cornerback Artie Burns in a new jersey. …
Jersey No. 3, the one made famous in Seattle of course by Russell Wilson.
Burns is back on a one-year deal. He had signed a one-year, $2.035 million contract with Seattle in March 2022, but didn't re-sign with the team at the start of this offseason. But now that he's returning, Burns will look to add veteran depth to Seattle's secondary, which is fixing to be a much-improved unit this upcoming season.
The Seahawks boast a group of defensive backs that includes Witherspoon, Tariq Woolen, Quandre Diggs, Coby Bryant, Jamal Adams and more.
Burns, a former first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016, played four seasons with the team before signing with the Chicago Bears for the 2021 campaign. In his career, Burns has played in 69 games while posting 172 total tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, four interceptions and 33 passes defended.
Former Seahawks defensive assistant and current Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai lauded Burns' abilities ahead of the 2022 season.
"I think Artie (Burns) has a skillset that fits a lot of schemes," Desai said. "He’s a good cover corner and he has quick feet. His part has been learning what we are doing here. That’s been the step for him, to learn what we are doing here and the different types of things that we want to play with him in the roles that we have him in here.”
That will take some getting-used-to, of course … just as seeing Wilson’s ol’ No. 3 back in circulation.
