Russell Wilson's Former Seahawks QBs Coach Steve Shimko Hired by Cowboys
Legendary Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson is likely on his way out of Denver after just two seasons with the Broncos, but his former assistant quarterbacks coach has already gotten a head start by finding himself a new home.
Former Seahawks assistant Steve Shimko has been hired by the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive assistant, per reports from ESPN's Todd Archer. Most recently the offensive coordinator for the Boston College Eagles, Shimko spent the 2018 and 2019 seasons in Seattle before joining Boston College in 2020.
A former college quarterback for Rutgers, Shimko brought his knowledge of the position to Seattle after being an offensive assistant at Garden City Community College (KS) the year prior.
Shimko, 34, has spent the past four seasons with Boston College and worked his way up the coaching ladder. He started as a tight ends coach in 2020, then moved up to quarterbacks coach in 2022 and finally added offensive coordinator to his title in 2023. Notably, the Eagles averaged 198.3 rushing yards per game under Shimko's watch this season, ranking second in the ACC and 16th in the country

This hire might make some fans immediately point to the Russ connection and light a debate that Wilson should sign with Dallas to be Dak Prescott's backup. Wilson, 35, could be nearing the end of his incredible career, but it's hard to imagine he's ready to take on a backup role for the 2024 season.
