Russell Wilson 'Shock' In Denver? Broncos 'Pissed' As Sean Payton Spins Truth
Sean Payton has developed a habit of talking a lot - and, in Denver as the first-year head coach of the Broncos, talking a lot about quarterback Russell Wilson ... most of his words coming out less than flattering about the former Super Bowl leader of the Seattle Seahawks.
Payton is most certainly splitting hairs here; It "hasn't been decided officially''? Sure. But the move was unorthodox enough to alert all involved of the likely plan - and oh by the way, it didn't sit well in the locker room, where players had come to rally around Wilson - maybe in part because from the very start last summer, Payton made Wilson his whipping post, poking fun at his entourage and his authority in the building and his penchant for "kissing babies,'' as the coach put it.
And we say the coach's overzealous style effectively turned Wilson - not a popular figure in Denver as the face of a failed franchise and a bad trade with the Seahawks - into a martyr.
Rumor: Seahawks Will Trade Up for New QB in NFL Draft, Replace Geno
That resulted in the locker room being "pissed,'' according to one report. And all would be "shocked'' if Russ is retained, according to another.
One thing for sure: The Broncos' authoritative voice is Sean Payton. And if you don't believe him? Just ask him ... and he'll use a lot of words to tell you.
