In this story:

For many justifiable reasons, the Seattle Seahawks' 2022 blockbuster trade of Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos has been universally counted among the all-time greatest steals in swap history.

But to the credit of the Broncos, their new coach Sean Payton and of course, most of all to Wilson himself - history is being rewritten.

"He’s in his third offense now in three years," said Payton of Wilson, who was a Super Bowl-level QB during his time here Seattle but a bust a year ago, with the Seahawks having collected two first-round picks, two second-round picks and more. "Every day, he’s working at it and working his tail off at it. ...

"There are a lot of things that we’ve been impressed with and that he’s doing very well. There are some things that, obviously, he wants to improve on, and collectively, that we want to (improve on) offensively.”

But as they get ready to play at the Houston Texans on NFL Week 13 Sunday, they've won five straight, a quick turnaround from their 1-5 start.

Both the Broncos and the Texans are 6-5 and represent pleasant surprises in the AFC, where both are right on the edge of playoff contention. And Russ is a big reason for Denver's newfound success, having thrown for 2,199 yards with 20 TDs and just four interceptions.

“Those numbers are all good,'' Payton said. "The most important thing is how we’re playing as a team and how we’re playing as an offense.''

We will counter that, though, by saying Wilson's rejuvenation is as important as anything going on in Denver. When the Broncos traded for Wilson, they also gave him a five-year,  $242.6 million contract, a deal that runs through 2028.

And yet, just a few months ago, there was a great deal of buzz about how Denver was exploring ways to dump Wilson.

But now? Denver is working toward a sixth consecutive win - and a fifth win against foes that came into the game with a winning record.

In the end, if it is working for Wilson in Denver, there is no reason for Seahawks fans to harbor much negativity. It's too bad how he left town ... But Seattle has mostly thrived in his wake, and now Wilson's Broncos are doing the same.
