Russell Wilson vs. Pete Carroll: Seahawks Coach Was 'Tone-Deaf! - Colin Cowherd
Has head coach Pete Carroll - having led the surprising Seattle Seahawks to the playoffs for the 10th time in 13 years last season - "pivoted''? Or does the media simply "pivot'' when Seattle wins?
FOX Sports host Colin Cowherd has criticized Pete Carroll and sided with former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson. What does Cowherd think now?
“First of all, I’m not anti-Pete. He’s a Hall of Famer. He’s in the Jimmy Johnson mold – great personnel guy, college rock star, NFL rock star,” Cowherd said while visiting Seattle Sports’ Brock and Salk this week. “He may not have the Dallas Cowboys prestige or gravitas, but Pete’s a Hall of Famer to me. He’s one of the 10 best football coaches in the last 25 years. I’m not anti-Pete.”
But what about that "tone-deaf'' thing?
“I thought Pete was a little tone deaf, a little run-centric with Russell in the last two or three years,'' Cowherd said. "I wasn’t anti-Pete. I thought he was tone deaf.”
Good for Cowherd is conceding that. But hasn't Carroll been proven right? His balanced offensive approach helped an undermanned Seahawks team make the playoffs, while the trade of Wilson to Denver was and is a Broncos debacle. Cowherd thinks it's actually Carroll who has changed.
“You’ve seen a pivot by the league to offensive coaches,'' he argued. “So I thought Pete culturally was a tad tone deaf, but his energy, his brainpower, his experience, his ability. ... I’m not anti-Pete. ... I think Pete has pivoted ... As the world’s pivoted around them in football, they have smartly pivoted,” he said.
