'Scary' Seattle Seahawks Thought Amid Jaxon Smith-Njigba's Slow Start
When the Seattle Seahawks drafted receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba this past April, the thought was that he would help form a devastating three-headed monster with D.K. Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in Shane Waldron's offense.
But through the first month of the season, Smith-Njigba has barely been sighted.
While the Seahawks offense ranks sixth in the league for scoring (27.8 points per game), Smith-Njigba hasn't been the fire-starter many thought.
Now, it is worth remembering that he is a rookie, and despite being a top draft pick, sometimes the transition into the NFL takes time. Luckily, time is something that the Seahawks currently have on their hands as they enter their bye week.
That means plenty of time to find ways to get Smith-Njigba more involved in the offense.
Is it time to panic? With the season only four weeks old, absolutely not. It takes rookies time to adjust to NFL football.
But Smith-Njigba's slow start to his NFL career is a bit scary, and hardly in a bad way. Seattle's offense is still rolling, as the has a 3-1 record while averaging nearly 28 points a game.
With Lockett, Metcalf, and tight end Noah Fant the driving forces behind Seattle's 3-1 start (not to mention the defense playing well), adding in more Smith-Nigba moving forward could be equally exciting for the Seahawks as it is scary for opposing defenses.
Smith-Njigba will have another chance to start hitting his rookie stride when the Seahawks come out of their Week 5 to face the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 15.
