Seahawks QB Russell Wilson Named NFC Offensive Player of Week 9

For the ninth time in his NFL career and second time in 2019, Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week.
Wilson previously received the honor after leading Seattle to a Week 2 victory in Pittsburgh.
Burning a suspect Tampa Bay secondary to a crisp on Sunday, Wilson completed 29 out of 43 pass attempts for 378 yards and threw five touchdown passes, including two apiece to receiver Tyler Lockett and tight end Jacob Hollister. He posted a 133.7 passer rating and also added one rush for 21 yards.
Wilson set Seattle up for victory twice, first marching his team 53 yards during the final 46 seconds of regulation to set up kicker Jason Myers for a 40-yard field goal attempt. Myers had enough distance but pushed the field goal wide right, forcing overtime.
Regaining the football after Geno Smith worked his magic on the coin toss, Wilson picked up two quick first downs on throws to David Moore and DK Metcalf to move into Buccaneers territory. Facing a 3 and 6 situation from the opposing 35-yard line, he then hit Metcalf with a perfectly thrown back shoulder throw for a 29-yard gain.

Two plays later, Wilson finally put a dagger in the Bucs, finding Hollister for a 10-yard score to give the Seahawks a thrilling 40-34 overtime victory. It was the fourth time he’s led a game-winning drive this season and 27 time in his eight-year career.
“Russ has done this so many times.” coach Pete Carroll said following the game. “You can’t have a better guy, almost in the history of ball, doing it.”
Thriving in offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer’s scheme, Wilson continues to perform like an MVP front runner and has now thrown a league-leading 22 touchdown passes and just one interception through nine games. He’s also currently completing a career-best 68.3 percent of his passes and leads the league with a 118.2 passer rating.
Wilson will look to continue his sensational play next Monday when the Seahawks travel to the bay area to face the undefeated 49ers at Levis Stadium.
