Sean Dawkins, Ex Seahawks Receiver, Passes Away

Sean Dawkins, a productive member of the Seattle Seahawks, has passed away at age 52.

Sean Dawkins, a wide receiver who experienced some of the greatest years of his nine seasons in the NFL as a member of the Seattle Seahawks, passed away this week, according to multiple reports. He was 52 years old.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay confirmed Dawkins' passing by posting a message on social media. "Rest in peace, Sean Dawkins. I am shocked and saddened. My prayers and condolences to Sean’s family," he said.

Dawkins was selected in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the Colts as the 16th overall pick and the second wide receiver chosen, coming out of Cal. He had five productive years with the Colts before moving on, and in 1999, eventually landed with the Seahawks.

In his two seasons with the Seahawks, he caught 58 passes for 992 yards and seven TDs in 1999 and in 2000, he essentially did it again, producing with 63 catches, 731 yards and five TDs.

Dawkins was a New Jersey native but become a star high school player in California. He earned consensus All-American honors as a junior in 1992 after being a key star on the 1990 and 1991 Cal teams that won two bowl games. Dawkins, who was inducted into the Cal Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005, played nine seasons in the NFL, racking up a total of 445 receptions for 6,291 yards and 25 touchdowns.
