Seahawks Announce 2023 Coaching Staff, Six New Hires

After losing several quality assistant coaches in recent months, the Seattle Seahawks announced a new-look staff for 2023, including officially hiring Greg Olson as the new quarterbacks coach.

Ushering in the new NFL league year, the Seattle Seahawks revealed their final coaching staff for the upcoming 2023 season on Tuesday with a handful of notable new names working under Pete Carroll.

While most of Seattle's offensive staff will be back from last year's team, long-time assistant Greg Olson will take over as quarterbacks coach for Dave Canales, who left to become Tampa Bay's new offensive coordinator in February. The team also hired Robbie Picazo and Donovan Jackson as offensive assistants.

Offering more than 20 years of NFL coaching experience as a coordinator and position coach, Olson has earned a reputation as a quarterback guru for his previous work with the likes of Drew Brees, Jeff Garcia, and Derek Carr. He most recently served as a senior offensive assistant for the Rams last season and will now team up with recently re-signed Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith.

As for Picazo, he comes to the Seahawks after spending last season as an assistant with the Texans and previously coached running backs and quarterbacks collegiately at Rice and Stanford. Jackson, a former Arena League player, has coached for multiple programs at the college level and was a national scout for the Vikings last season.

On the defensive side of the ball, bringing more than 20 years of coaching experience to Seattle with him, Roy Anderson will take over as the team's new secondary coach in the aftermath of Sean Desai's exit to become Philadelphia's defensive coordinator. He most recently coached alongside current assistant Karl Scott in Minnesota, where he served as assistant defensive backs/safeties coach in 2021.

Coming from Michigan State, Brandon Jordan will take over as the Seahawks new pass rush specialist coach and will reunite with several of his clients, including linebacker Uchenna Nwosu, defensive tackle Al Woods, and receiver DK Metcalf. Former NFL cornerback Neiko Thorpe will transition from a coaching intern a year ago into a full-time defensive assistant as well.

With plenty of turnover on both sides of the ball, several coaches received new titles, including Scott, who will now be senior defensive assistant stepping into Desai's shoes. Working alongside him, DeShawn Shead now will be assistant defensive backs/cornerbacks coach, while Will Tukuafu will transition from defensive quality control coach to defensive assistant/defensive line coach.
