Seattle Seahawks Top 30 Visits: Eyeing Bo Nix as Franchise QB of Future?
Continuing to evaluate quarterbacks with the 2024 NFL Draft now less than three weeks away, the Seattle Seahawks met with a local Heisman Trophy finalist for one of their official visits at the VMAC this weekend.
According to Aaron Wilson of KRPC2 Houston and as confirmed by multiple sources, Seattle welcomed Oregon quarterback Bo Nix to town for a top-30 visit. The ex-Ducks standout also reportedly met with Las Vegas on Friday as he wraps up his pre-draft circuit speaking with interested teams.
Finishing third in Heisman voting last season behind Jayden Daniels and fellow Pac-12 star Michael Penix Jr., Nix enjoyed a phenomenal final stanza in Eugene, leading the nation with a 77.3 completion percentage while throwing 45 touchdowns compared to just three interceptions. Per Pro Football Focus, he finished first in the nation in turnover-worthy throw percentage (one percent) and fourth in yards per attempt, demonstrating his excellent ability to take care of the football while also generating big plays with his arm.
Nix did benefit from playing in a scheme with extensive usage of RPOs and screens, which helped him unload the football quickly to his playmakers, but he deserves a ton of credit for his quick release from the pocket as well. Coupled with a strong offensive line in front of him, he only took six sacks and averaged 2.44 seconds per throw in 2023, the fourth-fastest average in the country among qualified signal callers.
A dynamic athlete on top of his passing talents, the 217-pound Nix wasn't quite as prolific as a runner last season with 256 yards and six touchdowns, but those numbers were down in large part due to the effectiveness of Oregon's running backs and the passing attack. As a junior, he ran for 519 yards and 14 touchdowns for the Ducks, putting him in elite company among the nation's most dangerous dual-threat signal callers.
Since he played five seasons of college football, including his first three years at Auburn before transferring, Nix will enter this year's draft as one of the older quarterback prospects in his class. He turned 24 years old in February, which could have an impact on his perceived value for teams. Most draft outlets currently have him slated as a day two selection with Caleb Williams, Daniels, Drake Maye, and J.J. McCarthy all projected top-15 picks ahead of him.
If Nix were to land with the Seahawks later this month, it would be an interesting fit considering general manager John Schneider traded for Sam Howell last month to back up starter Geno Smith. Schneider did tell reporters at the NFL annual meetings last month that the trade wouldn't alter their draft decision making, however, so the possibility of him staying in the Pacific Northwest shouldn't ruled out, especially after welcoming him for an official visit.
