Seahawks Star in Geno Smith Celebrity Softball Game
Seattle Seahawks fans got the chance to see some of their favorite players take the field early on Saturday, just not of the football variety.
Multiple Seahawks players participated in the Seattle All-Star Classic, held at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, Wash. Quarterback Geno Smith hosted the event itself, continuing his partnership with charities in the Seattle area.
Aside from Smith, three current Seahawks players suited up for the softball game and accompanying home run derby. Those three players were defensive lineman Dre'Mont Jones, running back DeeJay Dallas and receiver Dareke Young.
A few former Seahawks got to join in on the fun as well, including linebacker Orlando Huff, tight end Ed Dickson, defensive back Jordan Babineaux, defensive back Neiko Thorpe and linebacker Lofa Tatupu, who won SASC MVP honors at last year's inaugural addition of the event. Babineaux and Thorpe are still with the Seahawks today, as the former is a business consultant while the latter is an assistant coach.
Additionally, other local sports figures participated. Some notable figures include Miami Dolphins running back Myles Gaskin, who played for the Washington Huskies in college, and veteran soccer player Lamar Neagle, a Tacoma native who previously played for the Seattle Sounders FC of MLS. Even some non-athlete celebrities were in the lineup such as Grammy award-winning rapper Kid Sensation, a native of the Emerald City.
Fans in attendance got to take part in a silent auction, with a chance to win a jersey signed by Smith.
The Seahawks are still a few weeks away from returning to the football field, but the event gave fans a fun way to see some of their favorite players before then.
