'Players Love Him!' Seattle Seahawks' Mike Macdonald Praises Miami Dolphins Coach
Mike Macdonald rose through the NFL coaching ranks quite quickly, becoming the Seattle Seahawks' head coach after just two years as the Baltimore Ravens' defensive coordinator.
Now, he's expecting one of his former colleagues to follow a similar path up the ladder.
Over his recent stint in Baltimore, Macdonald worked very closely with Anthony Weaver, who served as the Ravens' assistant head coach and defensive line coach. This offseason, Weaver accepted a defensive coordinator role with the Miami Dolphins, marking the first time he's held such a role since 2020.
As Weaver, 43, moves up the coaching ranks, Macdonald is very excited to see what he can do in Miami.
“When did I figure he’d be a good DC? When he was in Houston [2016-2020].” Macdonald told Pro Football Network. “That’s the first time I ever saw him, and I thought he did a great job there and just working with him on a day-to-day basis. This is someone that I have huge respect for, just as a human being and a leader. Incredibly smart.
“The players love him. He was a huge asset for our staff and how those guys played up front in the success that, you know; you’re excited for the guys’ success that we had up front at the D line spot. And he’s gonna do a tremendous job for those guys, man. Love Weav, miss him, and we wish the best for him.”
Other Ravens coaches and executives sung Weaver's praises at the NFL owner's meetings, including head coach John Harbaugh and general manager Eric DeCosta.
Weaver will be taking over a Dolphins unit that performed well last season, but lost several key contributors to that defense. If Weaver can help the Dolphins overcome those losses, perhaps a head-coaching job could be in his future.
Macdonald's Seahawks will host Weaver's Dolphins at some point during the 2024 season, and when that game roles around, it's safe to say it will be a happy reunion for the two coaches.
