Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll: ‘Classy’ Answer to Russell Wilson Firing Rumor
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll is keeping it classy.
Carroll has offered up his first public comments since reports surfaced about his former quarterback, now-Denver Broncos signal-caller Russell Wilson, wishing him and general manager John Schneider just before Wilson’s time in Seattle ended with the 2022 blockbuster trade.
“My response to that is a similar response that’s always been with the guys that I’ve coached,” Carroll said Tuesday. “I’m always going to hang with them, and I’m never going to leave them. I’m going to be there at the end, with all of the good stuff and all of the bad stuff.“
Yeah, but …
I’m going to still be there,” Carroll said. “That’s it. I’m hanging. It doesn’t matter who the guy is.”
The comments came at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis, where the Seahawks are preparing to continue to benefit from having traded Wilson to the Broncos.
Wilson, by the way, has denied he ever issued a "me or them" request to the Seahawks at the ownership level.
But even if he did - and we will say that the expose from The Athletic seemed well-researched - it does sound like Carroll has figured out a most sound way to go about dealing with it - or most any other in-house issue that might pop up with a player.
Carroll made it clear to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on that he's "good" with Wilson despite all of the drama. … and given the fact that both Wilson and Carroll (and Schneider) created a decade of great moments together in Seattle, that approach is both classy … and wise.
