Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll Says San Francisco 49ers Did 'Nothing New' in Win
The Seattle Seahawks gave as good as they got in their 28-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday at Levi's Stadium as Pete Carroll's team now drops to 6-7 on the season.
Despite the 49ers' offense being known for its explosive plays, the Seahawks gave up countless big gains that either resulted in touchdowns or flipped the field in San Francisco's favor.
For Carroll, there were simply far too many big plays made by the 49ers, but it wasn't anything the Seahawks weren't expecting. Carroll said that San Francisco 4
“We came in here buckled up, ready to go play these guys, and we just got outplayed by their guys on offense too many times to win the game," Carroll said. "They had a bunch of explosive plays doing the things that they do. There's nothing new, just stuff that they did. They executed really well. They made some great throws when the guys were open down the field. [49ers QB Brock] Purdy did a nice job with that. There were too many explosive plays to hold these guys in check, so we’ve got to give them a lot of credit.”
Looking at the game, Carroll was right. There were a ton of big plays that the 49ers made.
Niners quarterback Brock Purdy had completions of 25, 54, 25, 45, 30, 44 and 27 yards. Add in Christian McCaffrey's 72-yard run on the first play of the game. He had another 23-yard run that helped flip field position.
San Francisco's explosive plays make it so dangerous and the Seahawks gave up nine plays that gained 20 yards or more.
Perhaps what will annoy Carroll the most is that what the 49ers did was nothing new to the Seahawks coaching staff. They got beat by what they knew the 49ers could and would do.
Report: 49ers Were Incentivized to Make Metcalf ‘Lose His Mind’
Now, on a four-game losing streak, the Seahawks are fighting to keep their heads above water, and things don't get easier.
Up next? the Philadelphia Eagles, who will want retribution after getting blown out by the Dallas Cowboys.
